Architecture and Design Engineer
Perl Developer
UNIX System Administrator
CSC

Commencing in 2002 as a UNIX (Linux, Solaris, AIX) Administrator with a secondary role as the Security Point of Contact for the Newcastle UNIX
support team. My role in both the Australian and Global UNIX Security teams lead onto software development work on the in-house Security Audi

  • AIX
  • HP-UX
  • Sun Solaris
  • SCO OpenServer
  • Compaq Tru64

Harden incorporates a client side system for each of the above UNIX variants and a server based component (also developed in Perl) to provide
web based reporting and exemptions of security policy breaches across a global environment of UNIX servers.

Development and support of Harden has been the primary focus of my position for the majority of my time with CSC. This role also included larg
e contributions to the Patch Tracking Tool and Auto Deployment tool projects that the CSC Global UNIX ADE team were also undertaking at the ti
me.

Other Milestones:

  • Consulting to various organisations on Active Directory/UNIX Integration using LDAP.
  • Migration of a 40 server web environment between data centres with zero downtime.

January 1997 - April 1999

UNIX and Network Administrator
(Contractor)

During this time I performed unix/network administration for multiple Internet Service Providers in the Newcastle Area. All of these ISPs hav
e now either closed or purchased by larger organisations.

These Included:

  • NRU Internet
  • Aljan.Net (1 year full time contract)
  • BMR.NET Internet Services
  • AFS/Enterprise Internet
  • Ourimbah Village Computers Internet

My duties for these clients included: 24 hour support of all services, configuration and administration of various networking hardware (Ci
sco - Access Servers, WAN routers, Ascend Routers, various HP hardware), Linux and BSD servers running on i386 hardware.

Planning and performing service outages for upgrades and maintenance with minimal interruption to the services provided to customers.

Software development for an custom built user/account management system for Aljan.Net, written in Perl and using PostgreSQL database.

Services maintained included: TACACS, Radius, Sendmail, Apache, BIND, various FTP servers, various POP and IMAP servers.

An emphasis on security was required, due to the mostly open nature of the networks that an ISP must run.
