About Me

Hi! My name is Jared Quinn.

I am an IT professional with over 11 years commercial experience. I am currently engaged in full time employment again and unavailable for consultancy work for an indefinite period of time. However I will engage in projects on an ad-hoc basis depending upon the project.

Previously, I was working as a freelance consultant, providing the majority of my services remotely. Most of this workload was centered around the open source blogging tool WordPress¹. WordPress Consulting

WordPress - “a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform”².

The majority of my consulting workload is devoted to providing professional support to organisations and individuals using WordPress while in my spare time volunteer ing support to users in the official WordPress support forums.

I am available to provide the full range of services around WordPress including support, installation, hosting, plugin development, theme design/tweaks and SEO³.

Background

The majority of my previous experience is centered arond UNIX System Administration and UNIX Software Development. I have also specialised in the development of web enabled applications, UNIX security auditing tools and the support of internet facing UNIX servers. (See a detailed list of my skills). I am available for short-term contracts in any of these areas.

I am currently located in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. My professional experience has seen the extremes of the IT landscape from some of the largest multinational outsourcing companies to small localised businesses with a handful of staff and a tiny IT budget. Right now I am working on several personal projects and taking on freelance projects if the right project fits.

Interests

I have spent a great deal of my spare time over the last several years organising, managing and promoting regular events including a speciality nightclub, fashion shows and live bands. Music is my second passion after computers, but unfortunately I have next to no skill playing any instruments. Instead I indulged my passion by appearing as a guest DJ at several alternative clubs in Newcastle and Sydney, and with any luck will do so again soon.

I also have a passion for electronics, and with my interest in music the the repair and restoration of hi-fi equipment only comes naturally. I am especially fond of equipment from the late 70s and early 80s (much like my taste in music) and have began documenting some of the more technical parts of this hobby (or obsession) on this site.

This website is primarilly a showcase and resume, providing an idea of my capabilities, design skills and examples of work.
