Welcome to my blog, jaredquinn.info.
I am a professional freelance web developer, specifically a PHP and Javascript developer who is into clean code, standards compliant markup and sensible web development. I also have extensive experience as a UNIX administrator with various flavours of UNIX, a total of 12 years of IT experience focussing on the LAMP stack.
I am currently engaged on contract as a Social Media Integration Specialist with work including Facebook Application Development, Social Media Monitoring tools and integration with APIs from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Live, Flickr, Twitter and Facebook.
I specialise in:
- Social Media Integration
- New Media Marketing
- PHP Development (MVC frameworks, OO design, best practices)
- Javascript (jQuery, prototype, Ajax, JSON)
- MySQL (high traffic query optimization; large db search optimization)
- Linux & Apache (tuning, management, load balancing, HA)
- Front and back-end development (but, as this site shows, I’m not a designer)
- Standards compliant and accessible XHTML 1.1 and CSS 3 markup
- Graceful degradation of Javascript and other modern web functionality
I have a solid knowledge of business principles and excellent communications skills.

I’ve also worked some non-IT roles, generally because they were fun. They include:
- Election campaigner for a NSW State Election (office management, volunteer co-ordination, technical support, media monitoring).
- Nightclub Disc-jockey – Goth, Industrial, Electronic and 80s music.
- Events management – multiple events, including live tour promotion and fashion shows.
